4 out of 5 stars good starter set   May 25, 2008

First, I love watching hockey, but have never played, so I'm not the person to look to for sound advice on the technical merits of these sticks. But I am a dad, and my 4 year old loves playing... that's the starting point of this review.

The sticks are pretty good for whacking the ball around, and seem durable enough. The edge is flat, and my son has used these sticks very well to learn "saucer" passes, wrist shots, backhand, and one-timers. There aren't many kids in the rural area where we live, so he has a daily challenge with any adult who will take him on, with the adult obligated to use one of these sticks. I must say that while they're about 2 feet too small for an adult, no one (including me: 6'4", 250#) comes away from a game feeling like we've been ringing a bell at Notre Dame Cathedral. The shafts are plastic wrapped in decorative tape, although the tape was gone in a couple of weeks (once it starts peeling, you can't help yourself). One of the sticks broke after 5 months, but that was me -- I was getting a little overzealous with my slapper.

I'll be buying 2 more sets to keep the games going. Oh, the ball... I bought a package of street hockey balls, but we prefer the one that came with this set over those. It doesn't bounce much (good), but is squishy enough not to leave welts on the shins of kids when you let 'em rip.

Highly recommended for people who want something that's pretty tough, but that's affordable for when they give out.

4 out of 5 stars Sticks are shorter than I thought   February 14, 2010

I ordered this for my 8 year old son, but the sticks were too short for him. It'd be nice for a 5 year old, though.

4 out of 5 stars Good while it lasts   February 6, 2010

I wish there were more information about the product. I was thankful that it had the length of the sticks listed but wished I had known it is the same plastic that you get from the sticks at Target. For kids that just want to play every now and then, this is a great set. For boys like mine that like to play every night, expect to buy a new set of these every 2-3 months as they are just not durable. However, finding play sticks at this length that aren't "professional" quality is very hard to do so in that respect, they are a good buy.

4 out of 5 stars A good stick for the price   June 11, 2010

These sticks are great for 3-5 year olds. Just the right height. Durability is an issue, but I've made them last by taping the handle and blade, just like my regular hockey stick. Really all depends on how hard they are whacking them or if they are just puck handling. Overall, I think they are great for the price.

2 out of 5 stars Not for anyone over 8 yrs old   December 14, 2009
Quality Shopper (California)
I am from Canada, and do know alot about hockey....and these are a very cheap interpretation of hockey sticks, not to mention too small for anyone over 8.
You would be better off using an used real hockey stick if you want the real feel of shooting a ball or puck around.
And you would spend the same amount of money on a lower end real hockey stick as well.
